Lupe Fiasco’s “Lasers” leaks on internet

March 5, 2011

Lupe Fiasco’s long-awaited and oft-delayed Lazers is finally coming out March 8th, 2011.  However, as always is the case with major label releases, the album has been leaked in its entirety on the internet.

The album comes out after three years of waiting after being considerably delayed by Atlantic Records over Lupe’s creative direction on the album.  He reported being told by record company executives that to lyrics were consistently “to deep” and that he felt like he was “being held hostage” by his record label. He describes Lazers as a compromise and thats exactly what it sounds like.  It is a desperate and pathetic attempt to turn a truly talented and unique musician into a generic top 40 pop-rapper. Atlantic Records should be ashamed of such blatant stifling of an artists creativity.  We can only hope the Lupe will have more creative control over his next CD The Great American Rap Album which is reportedly going to drop before the end of the year.

That being said there are a handful very good songs on the album and it is overall enjoyable.  Below are a couple of highlights, if you like what you hear go cop the album when it drops Tuesday.

Words I Never Said (feat. Skylar Grey):

The Show Goes On:

State Run Radio (feat. Matt Mahaffey):
